  1. So today I essentially got pissed off due to lack of respect of some of the actors. Overall, today was rough and I think everyone can agree with me when I say that. I did my best to remind them to stay frozen because that really is key and I tried to take everyone's notes and then say them and I think Dillon did a really good job in terms of funneling to me his notes. Will was an issue today but hopefully it won't cause any more problems. I also found out that everyone has there limits and I found mine when people just kept on talking when asked them to politely quiet down and when more people kept talking back to me. Therefore, I somewhat did sound like a jerk I felt but for some reason I have no problem with that because I feel that the actors need to know not to push us (the directors, Mr. Moore, and Mr. D) to that point.

  2. i agree with you sadat. it is a rough day today. But I think that it's better than yesterday. We actually went scene by scene today and remind the actors the details just like Ms. Houston told us to do. There are still a lot of mistakes and we need to change them and make it better each day. And yes we need the snack bar soon because it is hard for Don and Steph to move around the table and that we need to have the actual snack bar to solve all the blocking problems we have now.

  3. Overall, today was slow and sluggish and as an actor I felt it. Acting frozen is hard and I certainly need to set a better example. Will is not the only disrespectful figure, I was guilty at some points. However, I'd keep an eye on Tristan Fried becasue he has little respect for authority. I think the problems for the Headmasters office are tricky, but shouldn't take too long to solve. It looks as it Sasha and Hope will be on one side and the other actors on the other side (aka, the wall).

I sent a list of props to Erica over sroing break, but I don't know what to do about the hidden sword, maybe we can just use one of those wood and tape ones, or plastic, but we need something.

Finally, for the car scene, do you want Zylox to thwart CTC Sadat or keep Sadat alive and Sadating? Dillon wants him out so that is the likely route, but I just want some imput.

  4. I would like to see Sadat alive and Sadating. Long live Sadat. :)

Some of those props we have, but haven't been using because I didn't realize we should be introducing them. The Mexican Hat and maracas, for example. The heart, as well. I don't know how the heart's going to work though - so perhaps Lena can give the actors a tutorial on how to use it before they start to use that prop/costume.

I think we need to remember how to speak positively, reinforce our belief in actors and the play, while still critiquing. I think my idea of having the Director of the Day address major issues (i.e. bad blocking, issues that arise with set/props, huge passages or slip-ups in lines, 'big picture' stuff) and then have each director take notes during the show which are either posted or read at the start/end of rehearsal. I think it will not only make our rehearsal time more efficient, but it will improve the morale of the cast (and directors!). It's no fun to keep stopping and starting (while remaining frozen and silent), but it's even less fun when it's over something like slipping up a few words in a monologue or having someone like Zylox be 'crazier'. Does everyone understand what I mean? I think at times rehearsal really dragged, and that is why tensions rose between cast/directors. Its something we should think about.

Good rehearsal today. I'm looking forward to another great two weeks.

  5. Hey yall
ok so the mexican hat is part of eriks costume which means i have it...and the sash for Leah is done and burned and stuff and bloodied
MONEY MONEY MONEY WE HAVE MONEY which makes me really happy We're still missing some people though but i think we'll have it all by tomorrow and when we order the shirts it'll be done and over with yay!
Costumes are moving along nicely since most of the stuff is dresscode stuff. Props to DON and JAKE because they keep checking in with me and asking if everything is ok. Also Leah has been very helpful in contributing to the making of her costume which i think is why she is now really excited about it.
I will of course demonstrate how to use the Fake rip our heart once that's built and the fake arm for Jake needs to be built by the end of this week which is a job i can set some one on.
James said that one of these days he'll give me the CTC's to experiment on with the makeup as part of their rehearsal process which i think is a good idea so they can get to know their characters.
MR.D/MR.M can yall write down all your makeup and look ideas because i remember them partially but not fully so writing would help a great deal and it would cement some good stuff that i otherwise would have forgotten :)
    Thanks!!!
What i saw and heard today looked really good so Kudo's to all of yall that are taking up the load to stitching it all together!!!

  6. Lena - the exclamation point is well deserved.

The costumes you have so far are fantastic, and I can't wait to see everything finished.

  8. i think the skeleton on the shirt should be smoking... adds to the mystique, but whatever has to go, I should go and charm dean lawaiz later tommorow into allowing it. Today was rough, people seemed kind of touchy, but I think we were much more thorough and made good progress. I think we need to find a good median between James's strategy and Sadat's.... both are really good and could be better if we combined the two. Im bummed that kids were giving sadat shit today, that was really annoying and slowed down the whole show. I talked to will macomb about his presenting of the "gay" line for our scene and I think that the new way will be funny without being offensive, and if not, we'll just take it out

  11. tech went well today, we hoping to have everything done by tomorrow. like coleman said the most difficult part is the details. still trying to get script corrections from everyone as well. I'm not sure whats goign on with Jame's style vs. Sadat style but i could feel the some tension between everyone in the room between moving set pieces in. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for you all. As for the propaganda, i no a few days ago we were suppose to tell the cast not to talk about the zombie poster realting to show. I just hope that was done. The set is turning out great, and I think were right back on schedule.

  12. Practice didn't seem as rough to me as it seemed to everyone else. I felt the rough points, but I seemed to think the system we used with the DOD was fine. The reason I disagree with the notes idea is because sometimes as a director you write a note out but don't actually know what it means unless you see it in action. This happened to me a lot with Bye Bye Birdie. I'd write something down and by the end of the scene I wouldn't have an idea what I was talking about, but once I saw the scene again it would click. Thus, actors would constantly be asking about their notes. Also, it's always a pain in the neck to make sure people read their notes. I think its kind of stupid to have everyone standing on stage this early. It's obviously going to get annoying to all the actors and is really inefficient. Maybe we could have each scene stay on and stay still for the next scene during practice that way people who aren't even sure about their monologues can work on those. The actors aren't going anywhere, so worst case scenario we can call in a surrounding scene if we think something will look weird. I completely understand that they're going to have to stay still on stage, but the tension is going to get bigger and bigger if people have to come to practice to stand there and not say anything the entire time. This eliminates the problem with people moving. If they can't stay still for one entire scene, then it would be perfectly fine to question how they think they're going to be able to do it in the show.

  13. Lena-there are arms in the other dressing room. I swear. Don't make one until you exhaust all efforts looking for the ones we have.

James, I see your point, but I think Dillon makes the most sense. There may be reasons and occasions for one director to pull an actor or a scene out to work on little things without keeping people frozen for that.

In terms of filming -- it looks like rain tomorrow, so keep the idea of filming for Friday. That means the CTC have to get to the Bbox quickly for Lena to make them up.

We can go over more script changes and props in class. James - if you have script changes - see Pibl. Props, see Erica.
