How did it feel to hear your play out loud/read by others?

Me: The play sounded amazing. You have casted some great characters and actors. It was haaaaalarious.

Evaluate your casting and comment on the adjustments you are going to make. Did it live up to your expectations?

  1. Unfortunately, Tyler had to leave early and couldn't stay to read to for his role. I think Tim is going to do a fine job. He's got solid acting chops and will make a great Josh.

Highlights for sure were Jimmy as Dennis and Hank as Jai. Hilarious.

    Good work, everyone.

  2. I WAS FLOORED!!!! it was like a serious sugar rush/ brain freeze hearing the play actually read out loud!!! WHOA!!! I agree with james that Tim won't disappoint and Tyler I'm sure will be great. Jimmy and Hank were hilarious as well as Dean. i was again surprised by DJ who actually read the "ringleader" monologue with emotion. I was a bit taken aback by the toilette girl's story of how her parents were killed in a zombie attack...sadat... but otherwise it was very productive and i enjoyed it <3
PS: does anyone have a quick fix for a tension headache that's lasted for 3 days? or is that uncurable...a condition?

  3. I absolutley LOVED jimmy and hank, they were hands down the most perfect for their roles. Its as if we wrote the play for them. I think overall we all did a stellar job at casting and we all deserve a few pats on the back. After seeing our play read through by those particular people, I couldn't imagine it done any other way. I also think we did a pretty good job of giving reputable roles to experienced and deserving actors while giving some new faces a chance as well. Also thought stephanie was a good as Jenny and I think that Don and she will do a great job in the snack bar scene...

  4. I thought that today set a high standard for the rest of rehersals. Most people sounded excellent and Hank and Jimmy were definetley on that list. In addition, I also thought that Ali did a great job as did Aaron Geroge, he's got some serious talent.

Just a word to the wise, I thought there were some problems and I think we cannot read toom much into this reading because we might have gotten caught up in the fact that actors were reading our play for the first time. I couldn't quite feel Stef and Jenny, although I think she has the ability. I would only read so much into this note though because ever since the Jenny Project I think all cahracters called Jenny are Asians named Evonne. I also think Rachael Meyers is going to have to step up to the plate a bit more. I think she is off to a good start, but still has a ways to go yet.

But I am just playing Devil's advocate, overall, the good grealty surpassed the bad and I heard minimal complaining from the cast so it looks like we are in good shape. I look forwad to seeing is Don ad Tyler can bring it on Monday.

P.S. Good luck on the Chorus Tour.

  6. i was so excited to hear it all read through. and i feel it will be that much better to see it started to be acted. i was really happy at the end with the casts response to it all. im just really excited to see stuff come together.

i agree with Charles on the idea about how steph needs to step up some more and needs to find the character.

  7. ok but guys it was steph's first day actually reading some lines for her character like are we gonna be so quick as to judge her? on the first read through I wasn't mae peterson...give her a break jeeze haha

  8. The read thru was a huge success. There were plenty of highlights including dean & jimmy. And I do believe that after a few lines, hank realized how great he could make Jai, and stepped it up. Dj I think was a solid cast for Jarred. And in my opinion I think Rachel did a pretty good job.

There were some people that I had some concerns with reliability about, however, I think that after the read thru, the cast and crew is extremely excited to work on such a stellar production. I no i cant wait till we start building the set.

  9. I think the play sound fantastic. We chose a lot of actors that really fits our roles. It was so great to hear our play read through by others. As Charles pointed out that Steoh should step up more, I kind of thought it in the same way. But it is just the first day to read through, we should give her more time to understand who Jenny is and what characteristic Jenny has. Overall I think we had a great beginning.

  10. Honestly, I have never felt a vibe this good from a cast. They all came up to me afterwards and said we were geniuses and that they were super siked to do this. There was so much enthuasism. Ali and Dean met my expectations and so much more, along with Tom for my scene. I already can't wait to start rehearsing and I can't wait to start putting this show together and this should make going through the withdrawl of foul language easier for me. HAHAH

  11. about the steph thing lena i do not dout that she cant do it, have complete faith in her. im saying the role the way it written is completely clear, in the way Jenny acts unlike some one like DJ's character. its just ging to take some explaining and character development.

  12. I completely concur with Coleman here. These are the first read throughs and so it is not paramount that they have their characters perfected by the first day but I does give us an idea of who needs to step up more and who has gotten to grips with their role. All our actors have the potential, they will all come to the same place by the end, it is just that some people have more to run then others to get there.

  13. I loved listening to the whole play read through without listening to us argue about a line or search for typos. I think we cast this play perfect and anyone who doesn't have their part down now will be awesome by the end of the play. I'm so happy about how awesome this is going to be!

  14. First of all, I'm not happy you all didn't cast me as Marissa. Just kidding. Amber's so lucky. Secondly, don't worry about Jenny...Steph is totally reliable. She's not going to give it all away yet. Also, Lena, just for the record, Pibl wrote Ali's disgusting toilet monologue, not Sadat. Sadat wrote all the Churchill stuff. Ha ha!!! Most of you would have thought Charles wrote that!!!!
